Coaching Staff

Mary Holt-Kelsch – Head Coach

Holt-Kelsch took the helm as Brown's 11th head softball coach in July 2024. Her debut 2025 campaign produced one of the most consequential seasons in the program's history: the Bears matched the all-time wins mark at 33, captured their first Ivy League Tournament championship, and secured the school's second-ever invitation to the NCAA Tournament. The 2025 lineup also broke multiple program offensive marks, including 348 hits, 243 runs, and 206 RBI, while the pitching staff set a new single-season strikeout benchmark at 249. Individual standouts that year included Laurel Moody, who earned unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year honors and set Brown single-season records in hits, home runs, RBI, and walks, and Alexis Guevara, who collected First Team All-Ivy selection, the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player award, and the single-season strikeout record while becoming only the second pitcher in school history to reach 20 wins in a season.

In 2026, Holt-Kelsch guided the Bears to a 21-24 overall mark and an 11-9 conference record.

Before arriving in Providence, she spent three years as head coach at Rhode Island College, where she improved the team's win total each season and led them to their first Little East Conference championship in nine years. Her earlier career included stints as an assistant and then associate head coach at the University of Rhode Island (2015 through May 2019). She graduated from Kent State in 2013.

Facilities

Camp activities are connected to the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC), a facility dedicated in 1981 and named in honor of donors Joseph Olney and Moe Price Margolies, a member of Brown's Class of 1936. The building contains team offices, locker and shower areas, athletic-training support space, an equipment room, a 200-meter indoor track, and several intramural basketball courts.

A 2017 renovation, carried out as part of the broader Berylson Football and Training Complex project, modernized the football locker room and the training and equipment zones. A follow-up phase in 2018 expanded office space on the football side, including the Paul K. Sloan '97 Football Team Room, which seats more than 125 people and can be divided into two sections.

OMAC serves as the primary office hub for a number of Brown athletic programs, including fencing, field hockey, football, women's lacrosse, skiing, and softball.
