Coaching Staff

Camise Patterson – Head Softball Coach

Patterson was named Alabama State's eighth head softball coach on July 19, 2024, taking over from Todd Bradley after his five-season run. In the two seasons immediately before her hire, she led Florida A&M University's program to the 2024 SWAC East Division title, earned the 2024 SWAC Coach of the Year award, and received the June 2024 weCOACH Coach of the Month honor. Nine Rattlers earned All-SWAC recognition during her tenure, and one was selected Pitcher of the Year.

Her coaching résumé is built almost entirely at FAMU, where she moved from volunteer to assistant coach in 2016 and then to the head-coach role in 2022-23. As the top assistant she directed the hitting and outfield positions while the Rattlers captured Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles in 2016 and 2017. A short assignment at Bethune-Cookman in 2020 was the only other stop on her coaching path.

Before turning to coaching, Patterson played Division I softball at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. She led the team with 12 home runs and a .561 slugging percentage as a senior and graduated in 2015 with a kinesiology degree.

Facilities

Camps are held at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex, a $1.6 million facility that opened in February 2012 and gave the program its first dedicated on-campus home. The complex is named for Barbara Williams, an Alabama State alumna (1968–72) who went on to become the university's first coordinator of women's athletics after completing graduate work at Indiana University. Williams also served as the women's head basketball coach, finishing with a 95-23 record over five seasons, and coached track for 25 years, amassing 68 wins and 15 second-place finishes.
